
If you do not see this invite, or you have accidentally cancelled it, ask your friend to send you a new one. You should see an open chat window with the invite. If the notification has expired, open the Steam overlay manually using the key combination 'Shift + Tab' (Or whatever you have set the keybind to).
Go to the main title screen, and click on this notification. If you have been invited to play on a friend's world you should see a notification saying " has invited you to play Terraria". It will then join you onto your friends world at the default spawn point, giving the status message " has joined.". If you do not know the password, ask your friend for it to continue. You may be prompted to enter a password. Ask them to send you an invite and follow the steps in the next section. If this option is greyed out or not available, but they are running a server via Steam, then it is most likely to be on 'Invite Only' mode. Click the triangle drop-down menu beside their name and click 'Join Game'.
Find the friend that you wish to play with in the list. This will open the Steam overlay to the 'Friends' dialog. From the title screen, go to 'Multiplayer' > 'Join via Steam'.
NOTE: You may only join a friend's world using this method if they have set it up with the above steps.
Click the 'Return to Game' button on the lower left of the dialog to return to Terraria.įollow the method below if you want to join a friends world or if you have received an invite. They will then receive a notification with the invite. Click the invite button on the right of all the friends you want to invite. This will open up the Steam overlay with a dialog showing your online friends. Click on the 'Invite Friends' button in the middle of the menu. Go to 'Settings' in the lower right corner. Enter a password or leave blank if you don't want the server to be password protected.
You will then be prompted to enter a password. If you want friends to be able to freely join select Friends Only, or if you only want select friends to join select Invite Only. You will then be prompted to choose a Steam multiplayer mode. Select a world to play on, or create a new one. Select a character to play as, or create a new one.
